Israel declares war on Hamas in Gaza #

Israel has declared war on Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group, following a surprise terror attack on October 7. The attack resulted in the death of approximately 1,200 people, including women and children, and the kidnapping of over 200 others. The Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas, is still holding an estimated 130 individuals captive. Israel’s offensive has led to the deaths of over 32,900 people in Gaza, according to the region’s health ministry. Former US national security advisor John Bolton believes that the war is in its early stages and has been complicated by Iran’s involvement. Bolton characterizes the conflict as “an Iranian war against Israel, fought through terrorist proxies.” Iran supports groups opposing Israel, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, and the Houthis in Yemen. The ongoing conflict has often been described as a proxy war between Israel and Iran. Israel has been accused of targeting international aid workers in Gaza, resulting in their deaths. Despite international outcry, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the deaths were unintentional. Bolton suggests that the suffering in Gaza can be ended by eliminating Hamas, which he deems as the cause of the suffering.
